The Texas Pediatric Society (TPS), the Texas Chapter of the AAP, and the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas (CHAT) TPS welcomed 80 TPS fellows, residents and medical students from across the state for a unique advocacy experience on February 26 in Austin. TPS members served as team leaders to lead 18 groups on 36 legislative visits.

The purpose of this event is to engage the next generation of pediatricians in the legislative process by providing the knowledge, skills, and opportunity to successfully advocate on behalf of your patients and the profession of medicine.

This full-day of interactive activities included a keynote address from Representative John Bucy III. The key advocacy issue of the day focused on firearm violence. Participants were also provided an orientation on effective advocacy and a highlight of important legislative issues tackled in the previous session. The day concluded with team visits to the Texas Capitol to share these priorities with lawmakers and key legislative staff.
