Texas Medicaid Has Issued a Standing Order for Mosquito Repellent to Fight Zika

Texas is responding to the possibility of local Zika transmission by allowing Medicaid, Healthy Texas Women (HTW), Family Planning (FPP), CHIP, and CHIP Perinatal to cover the cost of mosquito repellent.

This benefit applies to women who are pregnant or between the ages of 10 and 45. Eligible women can get up to two cans per month through October 31. Additionally, Texas Medicaid has issued a standing order for mosquito repellent prescriptions, so elligible women can go straight to their pharmacist to pick up the repellent.

Women in the following programs are covered:

  • Medicaid
  • CHIP
  • CHIP-Perinate

Women covered under the Healthy Texas Women program no longer require a prescription to obtain repellent.
