TPS Annual Resident/Fellow and Medical Student E-Poster Contest is Open!

The primary goal of the TPS Poster Contest is to feature and showcase research and education projects of Texas pediatric residents/fellows as well as medical students who are interested in pediatrics.

Deadlines for 2023 E-Poster submissions:

  • Contest opens on Friday, March 3, 2023
  • Must apply or confirm TPS membership. The primary author or faculty advisor must be an eligible member of TPS on or before 8:00 AM CT on Monday, May 15, 2023 for the submission to qualify.
  • Deadline to submit is no later than 8:00 AM CT on Monday May 15, 2023. Submission must be entered online.
  • Winning presentations will be announced and posted on the TPS website in mid to late July

Winners Receive 
Winning presentations will be recognized and awarded at the TPS Annual Meeting, September 28 through October 1, 2023 at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center. Details will be available in the summer after winners have been announced. Prizes listed below will be awarded to the primary author only in EACH of the four categories. Only First place and Honorable Mention will be displayed during the TPS Annual Meeting. Accepted posters will be displayed online.

1st Place:

  • $200
  • Travel expenses to (up to $250) to 2023 TPS Annual Meeting
  • Complimentary meeting registration
  • Congratulations letter sent to program
  • Announced in TPS communication to members: E-news, social media, and annual meeting onsite program

Honorable Mention:

  • $100
  • Complimentary meeting registration
  • Congratulations Letter sent to program
  • Announced in TPS communication to members: E-news, social media, and annual meeting onsite program

Poster Contest Requirements and FAQ

WHAT ARE THE CATEGORIES?

  • Single or Multiple Case Presentation
  • Evidence Based Medicine/Quality Improvement*
  • Hypothesis-Driven Project*
  • Medical Education Initiative**

*Children Advocacy is encouraged under Evidence Based Medicine and Hypothesis-Driven Project.

**This category will showcase a description of an innovative idea in medical education developed or utilized by a trainee to disseminate pediatric knowledge, skills or attitudes to advance the care of children. Award prizes underwritten by Association of Pediatric Program Directors.

Primary author may submit a presentation for each category, but not multiple for the same category.

 WHAT DO I NEED TO INCLUDE ON THE POSTER?

  • Vertical template format only
  • Title, author, and affiliation
  • Abstract (one paragraph max)
  • Background and purpose/objectives
  • Description of intervention/study
  • Results
  • Conclusion(s)
  • Most relevant references

Posters submitted to other state or national abstract competitions may be repurposed to meet TPS requirements and submitted.

HOW DOES THE POSTER NEED TO LOOK?

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

  • Contest is open to medical students, residents, and fellows who are enrolled in a Texas medical school or a Texas residency/fellow program AND are current medical student or resident/fellow members of TPS
  • Co-authorship from other specialties and faculty is permitted, but the primary author and faculty advisor must be an eligible member of TPS.
  • Third year residents and fourth year medical students are also eligible but must supply future contact information

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Pediatric Faculty Advisor must be a member of TPS
  • Program Director, or Program Chair, or Clerkship Director needs to be aware you are submitting a poster

ELECTRONIC POSTER CONTEST EVALUATION CRITERIA: (based on a 1-5 scale, 1 does not meet expectations)

  • Connection: Relevance & Applicability to child health, practice, or education; why this is important.
  • Creativity: Originality of topic, methods, etc.
  • Clarity: Visual-format graphics flow
  • Concordance: Logic- title, objectives, conclusions all connect
  • Content: Scientific Quality- hypothesis-driven, methods, evidence-based, interpretations, impact
  • Completeness: Thoroughness & quality of literature review & /or scientific quality/scholarship performance
