The Texas Pediatric Society (TPS), the Texas Chapter of the AAP, and the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas (CHAT) welcomed 55 TPS fellows, residents, and medical students from across the state for a unique advocacy experience. TPS members served as team leaders to 20 groups on 36 virtual legislative visits.

Even virtually, it was a full day of interactive activities. The key advocacy issue of the day focused on Streamline Texas’ Immunization Registry. The Honorable R. D. “Bobby” Guerra greeted participants and shared words of encouragement, participants received an orientation on how to effectively advocate, and the program included a highlight of important legislative issues tackled in the previous session. The day concluded with virtual team visits with lawmakers and key legislative staff to advocate for these priorities.

The purpose of this event is to engage the next generation of pediatricians in the legislative process by providing the knowledge, skills, and the opportunity to successfully advocate on behalf of pediatric patients and the profession of medicine.

Thank you to our co-host!
