DSHS Newborn Screening Medical Director

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Medical Director for the Texas Newborn Screening Program (NBS) (Posting #564200). The posting will close on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Responsibilities of this important position include: policy development; protocol development; advising staff on unusual or difficult medical or care coordination cases that fall outside of protocols when needed; educational material development; provider/stakeholder education and collaboration; staff training and education; provider/stakeholder complaint resolution; and coordinate Newborn Screening clinical science research projects and publication development. In addition the Medical Director will be responsible for facilitation of medical specialist meetings; quality assurance (QA) and monitoring; clinical direction to nurse and public health staff in NBS; and educational development for NBS Unit staff. As needed, medical direction will be provided to multiple programs within the Newborn Screening Unit, including Clinical Care Coordination Branch, Newborn Hearing Screening program and Benefits program, and to the DSHS State Laboratory for newborn screening services and other relevant programs within DSHS.
