Dear TPS Member,
COVID-19 has brought unprecedented stress upon pediatric practices in the last few months. Cash flow and patient volume have decreased significantly causing some large practices to begin furloughing pediatricians, and small practices are starting to make hard decisions about their long term viability. The global pandemic has highlighted the tremendous cracks in the foundation of pediatric care in Texas due to years of underinvestment.
This is why we need your voice right now. Below are important policy interventions that we’ve submitted to the Governor’s office that will help pediatric practices through this crisis and address long-term recovery, but it’s time for TPS members to amplify these issues through direct advocacy.
Call your State Legislators and ask them to support our requests to Governor Abbott to:
- Swiftly implement advanced or prospective payments in Medicaid in order to provide reliable cash flow to physicians and providers throughout the emergency.
- Direct Medicaid and state-regulated health care plans to authorize use of telemedicine for well-child visits during the crisis.
- Increase Medicaid physician payment rates to Medicare levels to strengthen the foundation of pediatric practice in Texas.
Call your U.S. Congressperson and ask them to support the American Academy of Pediatrics requests to push the Administration to:
- Immediately prioritize and distribute grants from the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund to cover two months of average practice expenses to each active pediatrician in the US.

TPS has elevated this to the next level; now your voice must be heard to make a difference.
