Student Application Process

The preceptorship program is two to four consecutive weeks in length. Students are eligible for the program upon completion of their first year of medical school and through the clinical level as a fourth-year elective.

First-year students may apply for the program, beginning December 1, 2011. Deadline for applications for the summer 2012 program is March 3, 2012. Applications and requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis so apply soon! Third and fourth-year students may apply anytime during the year, at least one month prior to the requested dates of the preceptorship.

Students are encouraged to do the preceptorship in rural, medically underserved or health profession shortage areas. The Austin office will assist in finding no or low cost housing for students.

Students are required to complete a Student Profile giving information about themselves and their preference for dates and location for the preceptorship. All rotations are UNPAID.

Each medical school has a program coordinator to help you sign up for the program.
